The Fylde Bird Club Committee has offered a work party to Blackpool Borough Council Ranger Service, to conduct some management activities at Marton Mere Local Nature Reserve.
*
The offer has been accepted and a date set for Sunday the 21st of February starting at 08:30 amThe Club recognises that the resources of the Ranger Service are limited and therefore the Committee have offered to focus works on activities that might improve the visitor experience for birdwatchers, specifically:
1) cut back vegetation around scrapes on island
2) cut back vegetation in front of hides
3) improve screening at sides of hides with any dead hedging material available
4) cut duck loafing area in reeds
*
It is a requirement that a full time Ranger be present during the event.
*Several members of the Bird Club Committee have already volunteered and we would like to request all members to join in, who are willing and able. This is our chance to get some of the works done that members frequently comment on.
*
Details of the meeting place, duration, etc. will be communicated in due course.
*
Please can you respond to this message if you would like to take part, in order that we can give the Ranger Service an idea of how many people to expect.
[Anyone who would like to get involved should contact Paul Ellis in the first instance via his email address - below - or to myself via the contact page on this website, or by phone to 01772 705468.
Thank you - Steve Halliwell]

Late News via Paul Ellis:
From the Rangers:
" Meet at Ranger Base (Caravan Site)
Duration 8.30am til 3.30pm
Lunch Break 12 - 12.30 and 12.30 til 1pm
Tools should be plenty, however better to have too many. Suitable hand tools would be useful i.e - hand scythes
4 Thigh Waders sizes 8.8.6.10
2 chest sizes 10.7
Access to island not a problem
Boat will be available."
In addition I would recommend:
Wellies (waders if you have them)
Old gloves
Waterproofs
Food and flask (or quick run to the Plough).
Tools to cut reeds & bushes
*
Thanks,
*
See you there.
Regards,
Paul Ellis.
