Six members braved the very wet and soggy weather for a walk around Belmont reservoir and into the surrounding moorland. Parking near Ward's reservoir we struggled our way through the very overgrown paths and made our way over some very un-sturdy feeling bridges. Not many birds were seen here due to the rain, despite the habitat seeming promising. A couple of Willow Warblers were seen flitting amongst the bushes and a pair of Bullfinches flew on past us.
Reaching Belmont Reservoir the rain really started to pick up, and whilst we were contemplating whether we'd made the correct decision to carry on with the walk, a large group of Swallows swooped all around us catching all the insects that they could manage.
Birdwatching became tricky in the persistent rain, but we did add a few waders as we made our way back to the cars along the edge of the reservoir. Lapwing, Ringed Plover, Snipe and Common Sandpiper were all great birds to see.
I think we were all fairly relieved when we finally reached the warmth and dryness of our cars to return home.
