Venue: Hoghton Bottoms
Date: Mon 15th May 2017
Weather: Light Rain Evening
Park: Top of Chapel Lane
Leader: Graham Thomas/John Wilson
Party No: 10
The reduced party set off in rain to descend into Hoghton Bottoms then over footbridge to turn right along the river. Just before we turned we could see a Nuthatch flying into a hole in a tree. We continued on and viewed Hunters Hill where a lone Roe Deer showed itself briefly. We continued onto Higher Park Farm. This was run down structure with long barn and farmhouse tagged on at the end.
We could see the cliff edges of the Hoghton Tower Quarry in cloud at the far end of the valley but no sign of the Peregrine.
we descended to the river to look at the site of the bridge that had been washed away. We followed the riverbank right back to Hoghton Bottoms.
We observed a Goosander with 3 young having a ride on her back.
We finally ascended back to the Cars. 6 of the party retired to The Boars Head PH to dry out.
Hoghton Bottoms was a lovely area slightly spoilt by the weather.
